Maleeka's Surgeries

Donation protected
Maleeka was born with her legs OUTSIDE of her shoulder joints, making it impossible for her to hold herself up correctly. She "swims" instead of walking...although she is still as fast as lightning. ⚡️

Last year, Maleeka was seen at Tufts University in New England to see what we could do for her legs. Just the diagnostics set us back thousands of dollars, but let us know two very important things: that we could, in fact, help correct the issue in the shoulder joint through surgery and also that Maleeka was not in any pain.

Unfortunately, because we knew that she was pain free, Maleeka kept getting bumped behind some major medical and social issues with other dogs in the rescue. Funding is based on adoption fees, fundraisers, and generous donations from our supporters and we decide where it goes based on who needs it the most in that moment.

Maleeka patiently waited.

Today, her wait is over.

Maleeka is in surgery as we speak, having her right shoulder joint and leg repaired. The right leg is her weaker leg, so the surgeons decided to start there in hopes that the stronger left leg will help support her as she heals.

It is amazing how well she has taught herself to balance on these legs, to stand on one at a time, with the other sticking straight out to the side. Perhaps delaying the surgeries was a blessing in disguise, because Maleeka is much stronger now than she was a year ago and the surgeons believe that will aid in her recovery.

After the right leg is complete and has sufficient time to heal, Maleeka will have surgery to correct her left leg and shoulder joint, in approximately 4-6 weeks, depending on how the right leg heals.

Please keep our girl in your thoughts today as she goes through this complicated surgery and recovers in the days to come.

We received an updated estimate yesterday, which was higher than the original. We have raised just under $6,000 for Maleeka's surgeries to date, but will need approximately $5,000 to cover the full balance of both legs. If you would like to donate to this pretty girl and her dream to run, we would be eternally grateful. We have paid the deposit for the first leg, but will need to pay for this leg in full, as well as the deposit for the second leg before Maleeka can have her second surgery.

Please help us help Maleeka run! This was our promise to her in the New Year and we are doing everything we can to fulfill it. PLEASE SHARE her story, so that others can see and possibly help.
