Maleeka's dream scholarship's gap

Hello, this is Maleeka Fatima - an Electrical Engineering Sophomore at Habib University. I got selected for the University of Michigan Summer Term 2023 from a large pool of applicants through a rigorous assessment procedure in which students are evaluated based on their academic standing, involvement in extracurricular activities, performance in the interview, and passion for giving back to society. The entire program cost is $21,138, out of which Habib University has offered me a scholarship covering 75% of the total amount. Based on my merit, I am the only student who has been granted a 75% scholarship for U-Michigan. However, I still require financial help to cover the remaining amount.

I have always been intrigued by airplanes and aerospace engineering. Due to my undying love for aviation, I landed on some life-changing opportunities like being an exchange student in the USA and Japan. I was one of the 5 students from Pakistan to receive a fully-funded scholarship through the Japanese government to spend 6 months in Japan as an exchange student. I lived in a dormitory and attended a Japanese high school while I learned the Japanese language. In 2019, I was selected to participate in the US Summer Sisters Exchange Program on a 100% scholarship. I studied aerospace engineering at Syracuse University, NY, and realized that aerospace is my ultimate passion. I plan on specializing further in avionics engineering (electronics of aerospace). My bachelor’s in electrical engineering will complement the component of aerospace engineering I want to focus on, i.e., avionics and control systems of aerial vehicles.

This summer, I have an opportunity to take courses in aerospace engineering and relative fieldwork at the University of Michigan, which has one of the best aerospace engineering programs in the world. Spending a summer semester at UMich will surely bring me closer to my goal, and pairing these experiences with my current STEM Degree can help me develop a plan that could help enhance Pakistan’s aerospace industry. I wish to be an inspiring woman in STEM and want to work toward education. Hence, to fulfill this dream, I need your support.
