Making DuAne's Last Wish a Reality

DuAne Pleasant was no different than any proud father of three. Though DuAne was a successful, community-minded person, he and his wife, Anita, still wanted their children to be better, dream bigger and go further.
As a Grambling State University graduate and member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, DuAne and Anita were working to provide their daughter, Dakarai, and son, Deryl, the same opportunities they were given as young adults. He and Anita stressed the importance of a college education and were determined to make sure their children got theirs. Unfortunately, their plans were derailed when DuAne suddenly became ill late last year.
This Chicago native and longtime Effingham, Ill. resident suffered through immense pain, extreme weight loss and definite uncertainty for nearly a year. Though doctors tried to find the root cause of his illness, they couldn’t.
The man who owned and operated Pleasant Auto Repair was no longer able to provide for his family in the manner he once had. This auto enthusiast couldn’t go to his garage and tinker around. This family man couldn’t attend Deryl’s soccer games or actively help Dakarai plan for her future as a chemist once she graduates from college. Instead, his life became consumed by doctor visits and hospital stays. Eventually, DuAne was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Lupus. He passed on July 26, 2018.
As a show of respect, love and dedication to DuAne, his oldest daughter, Pam, and the entire Pleasant family, we’re working toward establishing an education fund for Dakarai and Deryl. We are determined to make DuAne’s dreams for them a reality. We’re standing in the gap for him as he’s done for so many of us, but we can’t do it alone. Please do what you can to help and know that any donation you provide is truly appreciated.
