Hi! My mom (Desiree Wingfield) and I (Jill Wingfield)
have reserved a spot for an uncoming Haiti mission trip with our church (Community Christian Church- in Romeoville), Our church has joined up with Compassion International. This organization exists as an advocate for children, to release them from their spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults. So we have teamed up with them to help fulfill their mission statement and sponsor as many children as we can. Together, they have also set up a trip that takes place from March 3rd-9th in 2015. Not only do we get to help make a difference during this time, but we also get to meet the children we are sponsoring. How awesome is that??
A missional trip has been on our mind and our hearts for quite some time now. We feel the time is here and that we are supposed to go on this trip. So we couldn't be more excited!
This is Kenia Jerome. She is 4 years old and I sponsor her. Isn't she beautiful? Even though she is so young, she is responsible for washing clothes, running errands and cleaning. Her parents are sometimes employed as laborers. She will be able to have a brighter future because of my love and support for her and her family!
This is Jasmine Garraud. She is 7 years old. My mother and her small group sponsor this little girl. Her duties include making beds and running errands. She loves playing jacks and with dolls.
We get to write letters of encouragement and tell the girls about ourselves. We can send pictures and gifts too. We also get to receive letters from them! Compassion international says "mail day" is the day they get the most excited about, hoping that it will be the day they will get a letter. Not only do these special girls get to recieve letters from us, but they will get to meet my mom and I and we'll get to play together!!! It is such a blessing to be able to help a child and her family in need so she can grow up to be a mature, God loving, and educated woman.
While a time is dedicated to meet our sponsored children, they are other things we will be doing. We get to visit Compassion International Headquarters and learn more about their efforts, obstacles and success in the country. They will take us to our sponsored site. For a couple of days we will be helping with a service project with our partner church/school, which will be based on their needs at that time. We will then get to run a vacation bible school with the kids! We will also get to attend a worship service with the church at that location. Before the trip, we are filling as many suitcases as we can to fit gifts and necessities for over 200 children.
How we came up with the amount we need:
For each person, it costs $2,000. This includes airfare, food, transportation, and lodging. So that is a total of $4,000. The additional $400 is for the fees that are taken out from this website. They take out about 10% of the money coming in.
We are truly grateful for this experience to take place. We appreciate any and every donation. Every dollar counts no matter the amount! We have been praying about this for a long time and we know this is the opportunity we are supposed to take!
