ALL kids have dreams and goals. I am sure you have had dreams and goals too! And still do! Well maybe? ;)
Let's meet Makenna Brown.
Makenna is 13 years old and is an 8th Grade Homeschooler with a dream and goal to go to the National Fine Arts Festival in Anaheim California this August 7th-11th, 2017. (Her birthday is the day before- August 6th :) How cool of a Birthday Gift! Anyhow...
So, you may be thinking, “what is Fine Arts?”
Fine Arts Festival is a discipleship tool of national youth ministries designed to "help students discover, develop and deploy their ministry gifts." Beginning in September each year, over 65,000 junior and senior high school students begin preparing their entries for the District and National Fine Arts Festivals. Students may enter as many as 66 categories offered in 8 main divisions: Art, Communication, Dance, Drama, Exhibition, Instrumental, Vocal, and Writing.
Makenna participated in the District of Florida Fine Arts and won FIRST place in her category of American Sign Language Solo!!! (ASL Solo) There were over 1,400 kids in the District of Florida who entered in to compete in all sorts of categories. With first place though, she is automatically invited to compete in the National Fine Arts Festival. (Anaheim, CA)
And this is where you play a role in helping to send her.
So who am I? How am I apart of this? I am Valerie and I am the ASL Teacher/Mentor to Makenna. I am also the PenFlorida Sectional Rep for the Women's Dept and will be already attending General Council/Fine Arts in Anaheim. So Makenna will be traveling with me.
On a more serious note...it has been such an honor and privilege to have been a mentor to Makenna for the past 2 years. Makenna has worked so hard practicing and meeting with me several times a week for the past 2 months. I have witnessed the anointing on Makenna and know firsthand the call into Deaf Ministry. Her heart for the Deaf is evident in her interpreting. And of course, I do want to mention that I am so, so proud of her!
I believe that where God guides; He provides.
I am presenting the need and if you could, please consider supporting both prayerfully and financially.
I am believing for $1,300.00 Yes you read that correct! And now you might be asking...where is the $1,300.00 going?
Here is the cost breakdown:
Flight (1 Ticket)= $400.00 *Found NEW flight.
Hotel (1 Room)= $813.41 *Found NEW hotel.
Reg Fee (1 Student)=$80.00
Total=$1,293.14 ($1,300.00 Goal)
