The Clinical Advisory Network for Sex and Gender, First Do No Harm, on 23 March, was a great success.

It was CAN-SG’s most ambitious project to date – the first conference of its kind in the UK!
Your generous donations helped enable
  • healthcare workers on lower incomes, students and trainees to attend at a reduced rate
  • low cost access to the conference livestream
  • and will enable us to put footage on our website afterwards

CAN-SG hosted First Do No Harm, a conference dedicated to critical perspectives on sex and gender in healthcare on the 23rd March 2024.

We had an incredible line-up of speakers, including a keynote from Professor Riittakerttu Kaltiala, senior adolescent psychiatrist and lead of a national gender clinic in Finland.

Other speakers included….

Dr Anna Hutchinson, child psychologist

Dr Az Hakeem, adult psychiatrist and group analyst

Dr Margaret McCartney, GP, writer and broadcaster, and researcher on evidence-based medicine

Professor Susan Bewley, retired obstetrician, expert in women’s health and evidence-based medicine

Prof Richard Byng, GP and professor in primary care research, University of Plymouth

Dr Jane Martin, retired psychiatrist and medical psychotherapist

Stella O’Malley, psychotherapist, author and public speaker

Rachel Cashman, co-founder of PHSEbrighton

The feedback from the conference has been amazing and many people said we need more opportunities to meet and discuss in depth the issues raised in the conference - so we're already planning our next conference! We want to continue our series of informative and interactive webinars. And, inspired by the ideas that came up in the conference, we want to do even more.
So we are continuing the GoFundMe appeal. If you support the work of CAN-SG please donate to enable us to carrry out our plans for the future.

We're a group of UK & Ireland based clinicians calling for greater understanding of the effects of sex and gender in healthcare. We campaign for clearer dialogue, better data collection, rigorous science and improved treatment options for gender dysphoria.
