Make an Assist for Outdoor Basketball Courts

The Mount Pleasant Youth Council is comprised of local area high school students tasked with the mission to, “Empower youth through providing the opportunity to serve, develop leadership skills, and grow to become engaged and responsible citizens.”

The 2021 –2022 Youth Council identified the need for additional outdoor public basketball courts for recreation and leisure. Many residents became accustomed to and now enjoy playing outside as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. While a small number of outdoor courts currently exist, the demand for them is so high that it is difficult for teens and children to secure playing time on the courts. The Town of Mount Pleasant currently has two outdoor basketball courts included in the master plan for the Carolina Park Recreation Complex but lacks the necessary funds to construct these courts. The Youth Council has dedicated their session to raising the $150,000 necessary to construct both courts and install required lighting and fencing. The two courts will also be striped for four pickleball courts.
