Major Flooding at Tuckerbox Restaurant

Hi, Vural and Jackie Oktay here from Tuckerbox Restaurant. Tuckerbox is Closed until further notice due to Major Flooding.

We are asking for support to help rebuild our restaurant. The funds we receive will be used to reconstruct our large basement where a significant portion or our operation occurs. The basement is almost a total loss and will need to be rebuilt before we can open our doors again.

On Monday the building’s sprinkler system burst in 3 locations dumping a tremendous amount of water into the building. Tuckerbox had over 3 feet of water in our basement. Our basement is very large and a significant portion of our operations occurs there including a brand new 19ft long walk-in fridge freezer combo that we just installed 3 months ago. Tuckerbox has sustained severe damage. The basement is coated with several inches of mud. We do not yet have a sense of when we will be able to reopen.

We are fortunate we are in such a wonderful community and many of you have been reaching out to offer support. We are so honored by the response from our community and we know we will get through this together.

We are also very fortunate we have such wonderful employees. Everyone has been working extremely hard in a very difficult environment to get our goods moved out of the basement.

Jackie and I are in Turkey on our first family trip in 8 years. We are trying to deal with this loss from thousands of miles away at the same time trying to keep a smiling face for our children and trying to provide them a Turkish cultural experience that they have been urning for for years.

We are extremely fortunate that Jackie’s Mom, Cheryl, who had been staying at our house, taking care of our animals for us while we are in Turkey. She has now taken charge of the post flooding operations and we are extremely grateful for her help and hard work. Thank you so much Mom, you are truly amazing.

It is going to be a very difficult road ahead. A lot of work and reconstruction. The entire basement is almost a total loss. We had filled the basement with goods in preparation of our trip to Turkey, including a very large order of ingredients from Turkey. It is all lost. That said, we know we will get through this, and we know our community will support us. Thank you all so much for your kind words and support.
