Mahina & Me: Kameaaloha Scholarship

Donation protected
We are Pua Mohala Healing & Advocacy. We empower youth and young adults by prioritizing wellness and indigenous ways of knowing. We cultivate safe spaces for youth and young adults across the globe to flourish and thrive in so that they will become culturally conscious and successful adults.

In an effort to break the stigma of menstrual cycles and decolonize our menstrual practices, we are hosting our second annual retreat, Mahina + Me (The Moon and Me), from July 30-31, 2022.

We are asking for your support as we create the Kameaaloha Scholarship fund with the blessing of the Kanoa-Wong Ohana.

Cami Kameaaloha Kanoa-Wong was our very dear friend and biggest supporter. She was a steadfast aloha 'āina, advocated for reclaiming sovereignty within Hawaiian families through birth and subsequent life cycles. She was a student and practitioner of Haumea and Hawaiian birthing traditions. For our first Mahina + Me Retreat in 2021, Cami was a keynote speaker and in her presentation, ʻO Haumea no ia, she shared how Haumea was a keeper of importnat female knowledge. She emphasized how we need to look to the past in order to push forward a future of our choosing.

As an organization, we are dedicated to to the Hawaiian saying "I ka wā ma mua, i ka wā ma hope," which means the future is in the past. We are committed to creating a safe space for menstruators to explore the menstrual practices of their ancestors and balance that with their modern everyday lives.

Often, we are told our menstrual cycle is gross, is something to hide, is shameful, is taboo, or is offensive. As indigenous women ourselves, we have seen and experienced the damage that this kind of thinking can cause.

The Mahina + Me Retreat will allow menstruators to reclaim their indigenous practices to celebrate their moon cycles, while also breaking free from the colonized stigma and embracing the power and truth of their menstrual cycle.

Your donations will go directly to honoring Cami's memory by providing subsidized tickets and scholarships so no menstruator is turned away from participating in this retreat.

We cannot tackle colonization alone and appreciate the collaboration with our community. Without your support, this would not be possible.

Me ke aloha a me ka haʻahaʻa (With love and humility),
