Maham's Proton Beam Therapy Fund

Donation protected

Maham was only 10 months old (in Jan 2015) when she was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a cancerous brain tumour affecting children. She was rushed straight to Great Ormond Street Hospital where she underwent multiple surgeries to her brain and received chemotherapy over the course of 8 months.  Due to this her ability to walk and eat properly had been affected. However, with the  help of god, all the staff members and doctors involved Maham was well on her way to recovery. She has been doing very well since leaving the hospital and is a playful and well spirited child.

Unfortunately in July 2017, we recieved another blow when we were told that Maham's tumour had returned. She underwent surgery again in order for the tumor to be removed,  doctors have now suggested she should receive treatment by form of radiotherapy however we have realised that this type of therapy is very detrimental to Mahams health and wellbeing and has very bad long lasting side affects.

All we want is for Maham to live a healthy, normal life which is why we have decided for Maham to recieve treatment privately by way of Proton Beam Therapy. Unfortunately this treatment is not availavble in the UK until 2018 which is why we are raising funds for Maham to recieve treatment from a leading european proton therapy centre. With this treatment we are hoping Maham has a less stressful time whilst being treated and that all her major organs and hormones remain unaffected which would have been damaged by radiotherapy.

"Proton beam therapy is a different type of radiotherapy. It uses a high energy beam of protons rather than high energy X-rays to deliver a dose of radiotherapy for patients with cancer. It works best on some very rare cancers including tumours affecting the base of skull or the spine. Proton beam treatment can be a more effective form of therapy because it directs the all-important radiation treatment to precisely where it is needed with minimal damage to surrounding tissue. The treatment is therefore particularly suitable to complex childhood cancers."

We urgently require funds due to risk of the cancer spreading through her bloodstream. Please can you help us reach our goal of £100,000 so we can treat our child so she has a greater chance of success at beating her disease.

Thank you very much.
