Magda: a Bone Marrow Transplant survivor
Don protégé
Hello everyone! My Mom was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome in 2015. Because of this, her bone marrow is very porous and her white blood cells were low. She couldn't be exposed to public because she could get sick easily; and because she couldn't produce any red blood cells or hemoglobin she needed blood transfusions either weekly or every 2 weeks. Her and the doctors decided that her best option was going to be a bone marrow transplant; which was performed in the hospital on June 27, 2019. Her stem cell donor was a full match and was a sweet 27 year old lady from Germany. After discharge, per doctor's orders, she has to stay within 10 minutes or less from the hospital because she has labs, appointments, treatments and follow ups 4 to 5 times a week and in case of emergencies (which can happen at any moment and must be rushed to the hospital). When she got discharged, even though the hospital pays half, we still have to pay an out of pocket amount for expenses. The residence is $50 per day; the medical equipment is $20 daily; the gas is $25 weekly; plus the groceries make it approximately 2,200 monthly in addition to our expenses and bills; and she might stay at the residence near the hospital until October or early November. Any donation helps. Thanks in advance. God bless you.
