Madilyn's Craniosynostosis Surgery Fund

Donation protected
Hi everyone - we'd like to share our story of what we've been working through the past few months in regard to Madilyn's health.

Madilyn's condition was discovered by our chiropractor at 8 weeks old. There was a noticable ridge on the back of Madilyn's skull which lead our chiropractor to research more and suggested a visit to a craniofacial specialist. Gillette Children's Hospital is highly rated for their craniofacial and neurosurgeon teams so we had to wait a month to be seen - that was an extra long month. On January 22, 2021, after a visit with the craniofacial surgeon, neurosurgeon and a CT scan it was confirmed that Madilyn has Sagittal Craniosynostosis.

Craniosynostosis is a birth defect in which the bones in a baby’s skull join together too early.  This happens before the baby’s brain is fully formed and while in utero. Because the brain grows quickly in the first two years of life, it is important that the skull bones remain open.  Craniosynostosis interferes with normal growth of the brain and skull and would lead to debilitating physical and mental disabilities if left untreated. Her craniosynostosis is most noticed from a side view as her forehead is bossed out along with the back of her skull. From the top, her head is very long and narrow. Her brain is currently filling all spots it can which is why her head is so long and narrow.

Madilyn will need to undergo a major surgery to repair her skull, which will allow her brain to grow normally.  Her surgery will be performed at Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN on March 10, 2021. Madilyn will remain in the hospital for at least a week.

If you're interested....this is what the surgery would be.

In addition to the surgery and spending a week in the hospital Madilyn will have numerous pre and post operation appointments. The estimated cost of surgery and the hospital stay is $110,000+. Thankfully insurance covers a significant portion, but will still leave us with a large balance due. Jenny is working to obtain additional PTO through work as she has exhausted all of hers through time off after Madilyn's birth. Unfortunately, that PTO is not guaranteed and may leave Jenny to take unpaid time off. The uncertainty of everything is terrifying.

We ask for prayers as we endure this major surgery with Madilyn. If you're able, financial assistance to help cover costs would help us focus on Madilyn's health and not worry about finances.

We've set up a Gofundme for Madilyn. Venmo or sending via snail mail is also greatly appreciated.
