AT A GLANCE
On Thursday, July 13th at around 10:30 am while at work, Madge Carpenter began feeling intense pain in her back and thought that she had a pulled muscle. After massaging it with no relief, it got harder and harder to breathe and Madge called Nichole to take her to the Emergency Room. Immediately upon arriving at the hospital the ER doctors and nurses rushed her through as many tests as they could and quickly discovered a large mass on her left lung. Madge stayed in the hospital for the next 2 nights with Nichole by her side (literally in the bed with her). During her time in the hospital, they continued running different tests. It was determined that the large mass on her left lung was attacking her airway which is what was causing the pain. They also found other smaller masses in her lymph nodes, adrenal gland, abdomen, and bones. Finally, a biopsy revealed that Madge has stage 4 small cell lung cancer. Madge turned 59 years old on July 3rd, 2017. On August 15, she started her first chemo treatment.
WHO IS MADGE?
Madge is a single mother to Nichole and is actively involved in her church as a greeter and assisting Nichole with the homeless outreach. Everyone that knows Madge will tell you what an amazing and loving person she is. She loves her job at the Regional Center of Orange County where she keeps everything running smoothly for the non-profit that provides support and services to those with developmental disabilities. Madge is in the process of writing a book sharing her testimony of how she overcame addiction and turned her life around.
EXPENSES AND GOING FORWARD
Although Madge has Kaiser health insurance, there are still many expenses coming out of pocket. Madge is determined to fight this cancer with everything that she’s got. This includes the conventional treatments of chemotherapy and even radiation as well as holistic modalities. Madge will be on various medication and continue making many doctor’s visits which result in prescription fees and co-pays.
Nichole has done extensive research on home treatments and even met with a panel of holistic doctors. Some of the treatment expenses will include,
1. Hospital Co-pays
2. Medication Prescriptions
3. PEMF Therapy
4. Dental work required before bone treatment
5. Nutritional Supplements
6. Strict Diet Regiment

Her daughter, Nichole created this GoFundMe campaign in an effort to defray these costs associated with helping Madge get better. While we are grateful that her insurance is covering the chemotherapy and radiation treatments, the remainder will still be well outside of her financial ability.
