Baby Maddox Needs a New Liver

Maddox Blue Rader was born on April 14, 2014 to Alicia & Kenny Rader.
Soon after he was born this precious baby was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia, a rare disease of the bile ducts that affects only infants. In biliary atresia, the bile ducts become inflamed and blocked soon after birth. This causes bile to remain in the liver, where it starts to destroy liver cells rapidly and cause cirrhosis, or scarring of the liver.
At 2 ½ months old, Maddox had a Kasai procedure performed in which the blocked bile ducts outside the liver were replaced with a length of the Maddox’s own intestine, to act as a new duct to allow drainage of bile from the liver into the intestine. This surgery is completely or partially successful about 80 percent of the time if performed early (before 3 months of age).
Unfortunately, for Maddox the Kasai procedure isn't working as the bile ducts are block inside the liver and not allowing the bile to drain outside the liver. Now the ONLY life-saving treatment for Maddox is a liver transplant.
Today, Maddox is on the transplant list at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis . All we can do is pray a suitable donor will be found in time. In the meantime, both parents are working daily to support the family and his mounting healthcare costs. As Maddox's liver is getting worse, he now spends a great amount of time at the hospital. Since Christmas he has been admitted nearly every two weeks and stays between 2-7 days depending on how quickly his little body can fight off the infections.
