Maddie's Stroke Recovery and Treatment
Don protégé
Hi :) My name is Annie and i am fundraising for my daughter Maddie.
On January 2, 2022, my beautiful brilliant 27 year old girl suffered a massive stroke to her language center due to a malformation of her blood vessels called an AVM. We had no idea she had this congenital defect.
Because of the stroke she lost the ability to speak, read, or understand or process language & the ability to move her right side.
After 3 brain surgeries & months in the hospital she was transferred to Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago where she will be until the 19th of April. Due to the therapy she has received she is regaining some motion but it is a very slow process. She is starting to find her voice but only speaks when prompted. She will need physical & occupational therapy & extensive speech therapy. She will remain in a wheelchair for the time being and daily help will be needed when she gets home.
As i look at the things we need just to get her here and inside the house & to her appointments & next surgery, I am completely overwhelmed.... and scared.
These are the things i will use your loving donations for:
A van with a chair lift
A ramp into the house.
A ramp into the bathroom & handrails for the shower.
Adaptations to the house that i have not foreseen
Therapy - PT, OT, & speech
Care givers
Medical Bills
From what i understand, She has a good chance for a mostly complete recovery but it will take years. Luckily, she is young and she has those years ahead of her.
She was in the middle of writing her dissertation for her PhD when this happened to her and my greatest hope is to help regain enough so that she can her finish her doctorate. We'll get there Maddie - with a little help from our friends!
love to all
keep your light on my girl
