Maddie, You're a Good Dog

Donation protected
The evening of Saturday August 15th, my little old dog Maddie slipped in the tub while I was giving her a bath, and she was clearly in a ton of pain so we went off to the emergency vet. We thought maybe something had snapped in her right hind leg. Chris and I had to wait outside in the car because of the pandemic, which was truly awful. 4 1/2 hours later we were all on our way home with a very unexpected and terrible diagnosis....

My sweet little Maddie has a bone tumor likely caused by osteosarcoma.

The e-vet is passing the xrays to a radiologist at their cancer center to confirm the diagnosis today, and to our regular vet who opens Monday 8am for a third option.
The e-vet was very confident in the diagnosis though, and says it’s an extremely aggressive, very painful cancer, and that it's rare is small dogs. We have serious pain meds to help keep her comfortable while all the professionals weigh in and I figure out what comes next.

Maddie turned 16 years old in May. She is blind and deaf, and already has arthritis in her hips making moving around tough. Our treatment options are limited because of her various health issues, and even under the perfect circumstances it sounds like osteosarcoma is a hell of a cancer to try to beat... I have not slept at all since we got home, just holding her close all night and into the day thinking about what is the least painful and most loving option I can give her...

If the cancer center radiologist and her regular vet concur with the e-vet on the diagnosis, I will be talking with her regular vet Monday about in-home euthanasia, how to know when it is time, and how best to handle her end-of-life care in these final few days.

I'm setting up this GoFundMe because a few friends and family members have offered to help cover the cost of her emergency vet bills and final in-home vet visit. Like everyone else in the events industry, my work life and career have been decimated by the pandemic. I was furloughed May 1st and then finally officially laid off August 1st. Because of an error with IDES on their end, I haven't received any unemployment payments since mid-July and am still waiting for a call-back to get it sorted out. I am so lucky and grateful to have some friends and family who have offered to help cover costs, and I hope that others will consider donated too. I know we are all hurting financially right now but every small amount helps.

If by some miracle I end up over my goal, I will use any extra funds to help cover the additional balance still due on the CareCredit card from Maddie's previous vet visits. The goal amount I have set here is just to cover the immediate emergency vet bill and our inevitable in-home euthanasia appointment.

Thank you.
