Mackenzie’s Recovery
Mackenzie was on her way home late Saturday night and lost control of her car, causing her to go off the road and down a ravine, ultimately crashing into a river. She was able to escape from the vehicle and swim to the embankment. She was able to climb back up, where a driver passing by saw her and called for help. Mackenzie sustained a multitude of injuries, including a fractured sternum and collarbone, broken wrist, broken tibia/fibula, tear in her liver and many other bumps and bruises. She is awake, speaking, smiling, incredibly strong and determined, but her road to recovery will be strenuous and long.
Mackenzie is our beloved daughter and sister, who turned 18 last year and will graduate from Patrick Henry High in June. Ever since she set foot on the field at age 5, Mackenzie fell in love with soccer, and has remained on the field ever since, participating on her traveling soccer team for 5 years, and excelling as an all star field hockey player. She was accepted to attend the University of Lynchburg in the Fall, and was offered the highest merit scholarship, a seat on their Doctor of Physical Therapy Direct Admit Pathway, as well as a spot in Lynchburg’s Honors Program. Mackenzie works at SCOR, where she coaches soccer and is loved by her managers, other coaches, and ALL of the kids. Mackenzie has her entire life ahead of her, and on top of the pandemic stress we’ve all had to navigate over the last year, any and all donations would mean the absolute world to Mackenzie and our family.
