Mackenzie - Epilepsy Surgery

Donation protected
My sister Mackenzie has been battling an intractable seizure disorder since she was 3 years old. At age 8 her seizures became out of control having over 100 a day. She ended up having emergency brain surgery with a resection. At age 10 her seizures again became out of control forcing her to undergo another emergency brain surgery, only this time my parents were faced to make the toughest decision of their life for their daughter to have a right functional hemispherectomy with resection. This surgery left Mackenzie with left side paralysis and the loss of her left peripheral vision. It was a small price to pay if she could be seizure free for the rest of her life. Mackenzie was seizure free for only a year. In the past few years Mackenzie’s seizures persevered exhausting all medication options. Now age 16 she is faced with undergoing a 3rd brain surgery in a few weeks. This is an extensive process starting with an MRI/CT and implanting bone fiducials. Second stage is to insert the electrodes for the brain mapping to detect where the seizures are coming from. Third stage is brain surgery. The entire process can last a couple of weeks in the hospital.
Our primary goal is to give Mackenzie her miracle wish to be “Seizure Free”. This go fund me page is setup to help my parents with expenses during their stay at Geisinger Children’s Hospital. This may help them focus on caring for Mackenzie while she battles this terrible disease and not have to worry about added expenses.
