Meet Macho: a sweet, loving 6-year old pitbull.
Why is Macho a "pitbull in peril"? This sweet guy has a sizable tumor growing inside his mouth. He is currently in foster with one of our veterinary partners after being surrendered by his family. Since he arrived with us in foster, we have done everything we can to make him more comfortable and ease his pain. Below, you can see images of the discomfort his tumor is causing him, which we've discovered he has been living with for two years. Bloodwork and a biopsy have revealed that his tumor is a plasma cell tumor, a type of cancer that is not normally seen in the mouth but more often on the skin.  Although mouth tumors are typically very aggressive, since this isn't a typical mouth tumor it is not as aggressive as we were expecting. We are currently paying for exams, consults, and tests to put together a treatment plan for Macho including a consult with a surgeon. If we are able to obtain the necessary funds, we will be able to move forward with getting Macho the surgery he needs ASAP. With surgery, Macho has the chance to go on to live a long and happy life. That's why we're asking for your help.

At Broken Tail Rescue, we believe that every animal deserves a chance to recover from their trauma and find a loving home. We recognize that many families and organizations struggle to support animals with extreme or urgent medical needs, that it is not easy or always feasible for them to muster the necessary resources and support. That's where we come in. We leverage the support of our incredibly kind and generous community to continue supporting animals in need. We rely on their dedication and ambition to do to this work. We lean heavily on our group of volunteers, and we count on them to always come through with their time and resources when we encounter a case like Macho's. And they do. Whether you've known us for years or are meeting us for the first time as you read Macho's story, we hope that you will consider supporting our cause. Keep reading to find out more.

Why $4000?
Below is a breakdown how how the funds will be used for Macho's care:
Bloodwork and biopsy costs: $460
Surgical consult: $180
CT scan: $1275
Deposit for surgery and hospital treatment: $3580
UPDATE 2/11/19 -- we received the above estimate from the hospital for Macho's surgical costs and are now focusing our fundraising on covering that deposit to schedule his surgery. We have increased Macho's goal amount from $2000 to $4000 to reach the deposit total.
**All donations over $10 are entered into the BTR T-shirt raffle. See Facebook for more information!

How much should I contribute?
We are so appreciative of any amount you can contribute to Macho. Every dollar counts! Should we exceed our goal for Macho, all additional funds will be directed to the many wonderful animals in our care.  Thank you for your support.

Will Macho be available for adoption?
Yes! Once Macho has been treated and has recovered, he will be ready to find his forever home. He is currently being fostered by one of our volunteers and all interested applicants are welcome to visit him there once he is adoption-ready. Please contact us through our website to set up a visit:  www.brokentailrescue.org
