Mace Koenig Emergency Medical Fund

On Thursday January 30th, my sister Mace was in a catastrophic car accident when a trailer being pulled by a truck disconnected from the cab and hit her car. Her spinal cord was completely severed at C6-C7 and she's suffered from a traumatic brain injury and cerebral hemorrhage, among other injuries. After a nearly 12-hour surgery, her spine has been stabilized but she remains intubated, mechanically ventilated, and in spinal shock. At this point, it is unclear exactly how much function she will be able to recover and what her quality of life will look like. What we do know is that the cost of her immediate, acute medical care as well as the cost of her rehabilitation and long-term medical needs is going to be astronomical. To add to that financial burden, she is currently hospitalized several hours away from home. Her husband Richard, our sister Kelly, and my parents are staying in a nearby hotel so they can be close to her during these critical early weeks. The out-of-pocket costs associated with housing and meals are already adding up quite a bit and at the moment there are no available resources through the hospital's case manager. We are asking for donations to help offset the immediate costs of housing, meals, and other associated expenses for the immediate family on-site. Once those costs are covered, any remaining funds will go toward Mace's medical expenses not covered by insurance. Every dollar donated makes a huge difference for our family.
