Salut, c’est Tobias, je vais bientôt quitter l’Indonésie pour rentrer en Europe, passage par l’Océan Indien du sud et le Cap de Bonne Espérance. J’ai le voilier, j’ai seulement besoin d’un peu d’aide pour réussir!
Qui suis-je
29 ans, globetrotteur, autostoppeur, charpentier, chef de travaux et plus récemment voileux ! Il y a 3 ans, j’ai quitté mon travail pour partir à l’aventure. Comme toute bonne histoire la mienne est en 3 parties :
<Partie 1> J’ai fait mon sac, dit au revoir, pris mon chapeau, levé mon pousse et parcouru 43 000 km de Toulouse à Kuala Lumpur.
<Partie 2> J’ai fini en Australie, où j’ai passé mon permis moto, acheté une BMW 650GS et réalisé le grand tour de l’ile continent en un an et 35 000 km. J’ai travaillé et je me suis porté bénévole sur des projets communautaires tout au long de la route.
<Partie 3> De là, j’étais prêt à rentrer en Europe, mais après l’aller en stop et l’Australie en moto, vous imaginez bien que je n’allais pas monter dans un avion ! Au départ je pensais faire du bateau-stop pour rejoindre l’Afrique de l’Est, mais la vie me réservait d’autres surprises, et c’est là que vous allez pouvoir m’aider !
Mon nouveau projet
J’ai passé plusieurs mois à Phuket (Thaïlande) et rencontré des voileux de tous les horizons. Beaucoup s’étaient lancés dans la grande aventure, sans vraiment plus d’expérience que moi. Leurs histoires complètement folles m’ont inspirées et je me suis dit : pourquoi pas moi ?! J’ai eu la chance de trouver un bateau qui rentrait dans mon budget. Un Swanson 36 de 1977 construit en Australie, que j’ai rebaptisé Unu Mundo, ‘un monde’ en espéranto. C’est pas le grand luxe mais ça navigue bien ! Le nouveau plan c’est de traverser l’océan Indien, passer le Cap de Bonne Espérance et remonter la côte ouest africaine avant de rentrer en France. It’s a small world!
Comment vous pouvez m’aider
N’ayant pas prévu d’acheter un voilier, mes économies ont en pris un coup. Pour en rajouter, j’ai essuyé du mauvais temps, et ma voile en a un pris un gros coup aussi. Je dois maintenant affronter le capricieux océan Indien sans pouvoir investir dans certaines réparations importantes et du matériel de sécurité de base. Loin d’être impossible, mais pas le plus malin ! Et c’est ici que votre soutien peut me permettre de continuer à naviguer, et j’espère, jusque l’île de la Réunion, où je compte me poser quelques temps pour travailler.
Les travaux essentiels et matériels de sécurité comprennent: sortir le bateau de l’eau pour un mois (700 €), sous-couche, antifouling, résine, et bague hydrolube (700 euros), assurance santé pour un an (465 €), réparation des voiles (300 €), radeau de sauvetage d’occasion (300 €), EPIRB balise de détresse (200 €), gilets de sauvetages et harnais (150 €), ancre de secours (100 €), GPS (100 €).

Help a young-gun adventurer sail across his first ocean!
Hi, I’m Tobias, and I’m about to sail from Indonesia across to Africa and then on to Europe. I have the sailboat; all I need is a bit of help to make it happen!
Who am I
29, avid traveller, hitch-hiker, carpenter, project manager, and more recently sailor!
Three years ago, I quit my job to go on an adventure. Just like all good adventures, mine comes in three parts:
<Part 1> I packed my bag, said goodbye, raised my thumb up and hitched 43000kms all the way from France to Kuala Lumpur.
<Part 2> Ending up in Australia (there’s nowhere really after that) I passed my motorbike license, bought a bike and toured the continent country for one year and 35,000 km, working and volunteering on community projects along the way.
<Part 3> By then, I was ready to make it back to Europe, but you’re probably getting the picture by now, I had no intention of boarding a plane. My initial plan was to get a ride on a sailboat from South East Asia to the East coast of Africa, and then hitch-hiking up the continent back to France. But things turned out differently and this is where you can help me.
My new project
Spending time around Phuket (Thailand), I got inspired by fellow sailors from diverse backgrounds, some with crazier stories and less experience than me, I soon realized if anybody can do it, I can too. I was lucky enough to find a boat that just suited my modest savings. She is an Australian built Swanson 36 from 1977, which I renamed Unu Mondo, ‘one world’ in Esperanto. She may look a bit rough but she is strong and sails nicely. My revised itinerary is to sail across the Indian Ocean, then pass the Cape of Good Hope and up the West Coast of Africa back to France. It is a small world!
I've sailed her a total of 1,400 nm up to Burma, down to Malaysia across to the stunning Andaman Islands, India and now in Sabang, North Sumatra. I am stoked with the boat, my decision and looking forward to the next stage, crossing the Indian Ocean, 3,250 nm (6,020 km), spending a full month out in the open sea!
How you can help me
Having not planned on buying a yacht, my finances are now nearing their end. Moreover, I recently came across rough weather, and shredded my sails to pieces. I'm now facing having to cross the mighty Indian Ocean without some important repairs and some useful safety equipment. Far from impossible but not the smartest move. This is where your support can take me a long way, and hopefully back home!
Essential jobs and safety equipment include: hauling out the boat for a month of shipyard (700 €), undercoat, antifouling, resin, and cutlass bearing (700 euros), health insurance for a year (465 €), sail repairs (300 €), second-hand life raft (300 €), EPIRB (200 €), lifejackets & harness (150 €), secondary anchor (100 €), GPS (100 €).
All costs listed above are for materials only. Work will be carried out by myself or my friends (come give me a hand by all means!!).
