Cats Abandoned by Their Owners

The Forgotten Ones
Left behind, abandoned by the owners.

These are cats that, through NO fault of their own, all were left behind here by their owners after initially coming in for long-term boarding.

We are The Sunshine Home @ This Old Cat , a long-term care facility for cats. We offer both temporary care and permanent care. We also offer compassionate hospice care for terminally ill felines. Over the years we have met some absolutely wonderful people and their cats! Cats from right around block and from all four corners of the world.

Sadly, a handful of people simply never returned for their sweet kitties, leaving us to foot the bill for their cats' care:

There's Phantom, one of our very first long-term temporary care boarder kitties. He was a very handsome fella, and so sweet. His humans dropped him off and drove away, never to be heard from again. Summer turned to fall, fall turned to winter. Phantom would sit and watch out the window, no doubt expecting his owners to return for him as they had promised. But they never came back. Phantom died that winter of heart failure; in our minds it was a broken heart.

There's Pebbles and Bubbles, who came to us from people desperate to board them due to allergies. They were two wonderful, playful cats. Unfortunately their humans stopped paying for them a year after they arrived. We lost Bubbles to heart failure and Pebbles succumbed to chronic kidney failure – almost 10 years after being abandoned.

There's Ai and Chirolyn, originally from Japan. These two gorgeous girls came in to board with us several years ago. They were abandoned only a few months later when their humans, who had moved out of the country, stopped communicating with us and stopped paying their bills. Chirolyn passed away due to renal failure a few years later at the age of 15. Ai was with us for almost 8 years, just recently passing away due to renal failure at the age of 18.

And then there are the four cats rescued from a barn. Bandit is the mother of Fuji and Nim. They, along with Tasha, arrived from Canada as their humans were in the process of relocating elsewhere in world. Unfortunately their owners stopped communicating with us and stopped paying their bills, abandoning these adorable cats and leaving them simply devastated. Sadly, Bandit passed away recently due to complications from heart failure. Nim, Fuji and Tasha miss her terribly.

So all one needs to do is spend a little time on our web site, read what people say about us and learn just how passionate we are about cats. We do what we do because it's a labor of love. We do not make a lot of money but we're OK with that. However when we have to pay the bills for cats that owners have left behind, it does cause us financial hardship.

As of February 2015 we have spent $14,676.15 of our own money to pay for veterinary care, food & litter for these nine abandoned cats. This figure does not include ANY compensation for all of our time and effort – only our out of pocket expenses. So we are hoping to raise enough funds to offset the costs we have incurred for these cats that were left behind... The Forgotten Ones.

From the bottom of our hearts here at This Old Cat, and on behalf of The Forgotten Ones, THANK YOU!
