My name is Rafaela Diaz from Middletown, New York. My nephew Alex Rodriguez is a 22 years old full time student and on the Baseball Team and a Senior at Plattsburgh University in N.Y.
On Monday, March 21, 2016 he was rushed to the Plattsburgh Hospital ER due to a terrible headache and other symtoms he had for a week. After a CTscan & MRI Plattsburgh Hospital transfered him in Ambulance to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Vermont, to be seen & evaluated by a Neuro Surgeon for the diagnostic of a mass that formed on his brain and a severe cronic sinus infection.
On March 22, 2016 he went under emergency surgery to remove the mass on his brain and clean all the cronic sinus infection. He had a couple of complications during his recovery after surgery, but thanks to the Lord and the great group of Doctors, he is now in stable condition and remains in ICU under 24hr. monitor. Doctors are positive about his recuparation. My nephew is a great kid and loved by everyone that knows him. His parents Miguel Rodriguez & Carmen Perez live in Puerto Rico, and thank God were able to be by his side after surgery. They are not working at this moment and they are spending a significant amount of money in hotel, food, car rental and other extras. The closest family member they have is me and my husband, and we live 5 hours away from Vermont. We had been by their side for support and helping with the finacial part as well. Drs. told the family that after this kind of surgery Alex will need to stay at the hospital for at least 3 weeks, he is not allowed to return to school, and he needs treatment for the following 3 months with antibiotics through vein, and follow up visits to Vermont for CTscan. When Alex is discharge from the hospital, he will come to New York with us, and mom and dad will take turns flying to/from Puerto Rico to be part of his recuparation. They will need financial help inmediately to travel and for the daily expenses they are facing right now. Alex parents are humble, honest, caring, loving people that are used to help others in dificult situations like they are in now. I will love for them to have the same help and support from everyone that could help them with a small donation that will help to defray the cost of these unexpected expenses.
