Brooke’s Diagnosis:
Brooke finally has a diagnosis after many questions, tests, procedures, and days at Children’s Hospital. Brooke has been diagnosed with Congenital HLH (Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis).
What does that mean?
This form of HLH is genetic and Brad and I both carry a mutated form of this HLH gene which gave Brooke a 25% of having HLH (punnett square). This is an extremely rare condition. Think of it like cancer but not like cancer.
What is the treatment for congenital HLH? Without treatment, this disease is fatal and will only give Brooke 1-2 years, if we are lucky. Brad and I both agreed that we will be moving forward with treatment. Her treatment will consist of 2 stages. The first stage is treating her symptoms with 3 drugs: steroids, chemotherapy, and a “study drug”. The second stage is curing her which would mean she will need intensive chemotherapy followed up with a bone marrow transplant.
They are hopeful that Brooke will live a normal and healthy life after all of this. This whole process with be about a year and half and she will have follow-up care for much longer.

Brooke is a beautiful baby who has been battling an unknown illness for 3 weeks. She has been through the ringer.
Brooke’s medical journey has been far from easy. She has been admitted to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin for over a week.
She has had a blood transfusion, platelet transfusions, CT scans, IVs, Picc lines, x-rays, Bone Marrow Aspiration, and biopsies, and many more procedures and surgeries to come.
Unfortunately, due to this unforeseen medical emergency. Brad and I are left to deal with the emotional, physical, and financial difficulties that this medical trauma has brought upon us.
Brooke’s journey back to health will be a lengthy and expensive one but we want to give it our all and are asking for some assistance with expenses along the way.
Your support would mean the world to us and would alleviate the financial stress that has been brought upon us. We greatly appreciate anything that you can contribute. We refuse to give up and the doctors and staff at Children’s Hospital will not stop fighting until we have answers and Brooke gets better.
