Well this is quite a story to tell....
In the Spring of 2013, Gilbert was diagnosed with intestinal and appendix cancer. He was then scheduled for surgery to remove the appendix and the tumors in the large intestine.  During the surgery, the doctor discovered that the cancer was more extensive than he thought, and tried his best to remove all that he could.  After the surgery, the doctor was very somber as he told us, "I took out everything I could see and feel that was affected."  We knew it was going to be a long road ahead; however, peace is found when we are resting in the Lord's arms.

Recovering from surgery was suppose to be long; however, being our superhero dad, was back to work in 3 to 4 months. We can praise the Lord that through this entire time he has never felt sickly or felt "like he should with this type of ailment" maybe a little tired, but never in pain. Praise the Lord for His mercies!

In December 2013, he went for his follow up PT/CT scan. The results were that tumors had metastized to the liver, lungs, and abdominal area.

The doctor said that the type of cancer present could not be treated with traditional chemo or radiation; however, there was an experimental treatment available, but it was not going to be covered by insurance. My parents decided to forgo any type of treatment since chemo and radiation would only diminish the quality of his life and prevent him from working.

Results of his October 2014 PT scan showed that all tumors had grown in size at a moderate rate, since Decemeber 2013.

In February 2015 another CT scan was done, because we noticed that he was jaundiced and fatigued more easily. The results showed that there were a couple of new tumors and all existing tumors had grown in size. Blood work indicated elevated liver enzymes showing that the tumors in the liver are affecting proper liver function, causing the jaundice.

Throughout these past two years he has been making adjustments to his diet and managing a regime of supplements.

We are looking to help offset the accrued and future medical expenses, as his medical insurance will be discontinuing coverage.  He has voiced that he would like to visit one of his daughters and her family (3 grandchildren) in Germany, where they have been stationed in the Army for the past 3 years and will be for another 3 years. This would be a trip of a lifetime to spend some time with his grandchildren that he last saw when they were very little (4,  1 and 1/2  and 3 months). He has been self-employed since 1984 and as we know when self-employed, you are the magic. Vacations were most of the time non-existent.

We are doing everything we can with the help of the Lord, our family, and our friends; to be to able to give back a little to a man that has been our superhero. Please donate whatever the Lord puts on your heart, we really appreciate it.
