Meet my sister-in-law, Jill. She is a mother of two boys, wife of Jim and is suffering from chronic migraines. I last saw Jill in August of last year. The Jill I knew is no longer there. She is a ghost, a shadow of herself.
Jill's migraines began at age 14 and now, 36 years later, have progressed to leave her completely debilitated. No longer able to work, Jill has pain every day. Most days are spent in a dark room with a pillow over her head. The constant pain while horrible is nothing compared to the utter despair of the loss of her quality of life.
Her youngest son, Lars, 11, is a basketball star, but Jill can only attend a limited number of games and only then with dark glasses and earplugs. Anders is a freshman at Aspen High school. His passion is theater and fashion design. While musicals are usually uplifting, for Jill they are painful.
Jill has tried many avenues to lessen the Migraines including: special diets, chiropractor, massage, acupuncture, botox, occipital blocks, facet blocks, risotomy, migraine meds, opiates, pain killers, all with limited or no relief. Jill has a great team of specialists working with her, including a neurologist, pain specialist, her medical doctor and a psychologist who, have exhausted all traditional therapies and have recommended an occipital nerve decompression surgery.
Sadly, Jill's insurance has denied this surgery, and we hope that with the help of family and friends we can raise the funds necessary for the surgery and related travel expenses. Together we can help Jill, a beloved wife and mother, get back to doing the things she loves and lives for.
