Lynn's Brain Cancer Fund

Donation protected
Lynn and I were married in 1970 and were living a perfectly normal family life and had three children. In 1983 Lynn got pregnant again and we were excited to have another child in our life when Lynn found out the baby she was carrying, that was passed due by a week, died. She gave birth to a beautiful daughter named Laura but had to be buried. We grieved for our daughter and went to support groups and Lynn, being the selfless person that she is, started a new support group for others. She was the facilitator and counseled other mothers that had lossed babies due to SIDs and misscarriages.

In 2005, our 28 year old daughter Jessica was diagnosed with stage 4 invasive breast cancer. She was dropped by her insurance company and we had to assist her financially as she battled chemo therapy and eventually passed away November 14th, 2005. Again we found ourselves joining support groups for grieving the loss of our daughter. We realized at this point that there weren't really any support groups for those that lost children so we started up a Passionate Friends support group to help others of whom had lost their children of all ages. By helping our daughter out financially with her battle against cancer we put ourselves in financial risk.

On April 28th, 2012 Lynn had a massive seizure. Lynn was taken to the hospital and there we were first informed she had a stroke and she was unresponsive but they were still running tests. The doctor finally determined that it wasn't a stroke but rather a tumor the size of an adult fist on the right size of her brain. It was decided that she would have to go to the University of Minnesota hospital and we wre informed to call the family in because there was a good chance nothing could be done to remedy the situation. Subsequently they determined that surgery was a possibility but there would be many risks involved from a possible stroke to too much bleeding or even death on the operating table. The surgery took 36 hours and was done as a staged surgery over a 3 day period. Lynn did in fact suffer a stroke during surgery and ultimately had to relearn most things prior to the brain tumor. She went through 3 months of rehabilition for things like swallowing, eating, drinking, walking and all those functions we take for granted everyday. When she was released to come home the doctors at the rehab facility informed me that she may learn how to speak again or she may never speak again. They also misdiagnosed her with pneumonia when in fact, after she was home for one day, we rushed her back to the hospital for a blood clot in her lungs. She spent another two weeks in the hospital battling this episode.

My wife wanted to get better and she has pushed herself incredibly hard to relearn all those things she lost during this battle with a brain tumor.

The financial struggles that always follow when someone gets a debilitating illness have made our current financial situation incredibly difficult. My wife now after two and a half years has found out the tumor has begun to grow again and is fighting through radiation therapy and, as you can see in the picture, has recently lost her beautiful hair. This is a lifelong battle that my wife is struggling with and for the sake of her kids and grand kids we would love to see her recover and live a beautiful healthy life.

We use the words hero and saint sometimes freely in our vocabulary but in this case, in our small family, I would say that Lynn is our hero and our saint. Lynn is a great wife, mother and grandmother and has always been a selfless person that deserves some help from others in her time of need.
