Sharon's Fight Against Lyme Borreliosis Complex

Donation protected
A year ago my mother's life was turned upside down. It began with double vision and severe joint pain. After many tests, 2 hospital stays, and a number of doctors she was referred to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Over 3 days they did more tests. They sent her home with no answers but gave her the name of a couple of doctors she needed to get in touch with here in Memphis. After meeting with an Infectious Disease Doctor in Tunica we finally started to get some answers. My mother was diagnosed with Late Stage Neurological Lyme Disease. Within the past year, she has lost most of her vision, her short term memory, her job, her ability to drive, and even the ability to do daily tasks. The doctors are hopeful but do not know how much she will get back after treatment due to possible scarring or irreversible damage. But without treatment, my mother will continue to decline quickly.

Last month my mother was put in contact with a Lyme disease specialist, Dr. Joseph Jemsek, in Washington, DC. He has agreed to take on her case due to the severity and progression of the Lyme Disease. He is wanting her to start treatment in January 2021. This will be extremely expensive and there will be no financial help from her insurance. Despite a patient having insurance coverage the insurance companies pick and choose what they cover.  This has forced my mother to have to fund a significant portion of her medical expenses out of pocket. Below is a list of many of the expenses that she will be faced with at the beginning of the year when treatment begins.

Months of at-home IV treatment
A Port a Cath that will be placed right below her clavicle
Travel to and from Washington DC every 4-6 weeks
Appointments with Dr. Jemsek and Dr. Kim Fogerty
Dr. appointments in Memphis that will also be a part of her medical team
In-home nurses that will help with the port
Possible Hospital stays

The IV treatment and appointments with Dr. Jemsek alone will be around $43,500. Please help us raise money to help her with treatment and fight to get her life back!! Please donate no matter how great or small the amount! Every cent counts! Thank you!!

We plan to keep everyone updated on her treatment and her progress!
