I have been trying to get into the Mayo Clinic for some time, but cannot afford it.
Let me tell you my story.
I was was born with a blockage in my kidney, I spent a whole summer, when I was eight years old in the hospital, had a couple major surgeries to fix the issue. It was fixed... until I was 16. There was major scar tissue build up that was blocking my ureter again, and it needed to be removed. When I was 20, there was another blockage, and they removed that. Two years later, I was in the hospital again for a month, and the doctors had no idea what was wrong. It wasn't until I was sent to U of M, two years after that, that they found a small blood vessel blocking the ureter again. I had a major surgery in September of 2013 to fix the problem. I was good for a few months after the surgery, until the pain returned.
I've gone back to U of M, moved down to the Detroit area to be closer to my nephrologist. I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease in my left kidney. All of the surgeries and tests that I have had, have literally shocked my kidney into failure. I am not getting the answers I need from my current doctors, and I have now had three doctors telling me to take my case to the Mayo Clinic. When I called, to make an appointment, I discovered it was going to be $5000 for the appointment and proper testing. (My Michigan Healthcare doesn't cover out of state.) Plus the travel expenses.
Because of the pain that I am in, everything is difficult. I can't work more that a few hours, three or four days a week, without over-doing it. I don't make that much money, and I need help getting to the Mayo Clinic.
I need to get there, find out what can be done, and get this issue fixed. I am 27 years old and want to live a good, happy, and long life. I don't want this to ruin my life any more than it has already. So, will you help me get to the Mayo Clinic?
