Lu's Top Surgery Fundraiser

Hi! I’m Lu. I’m a 29 year old non-binary youth worker and performer from Leeds, and I’m currently saving to get top surgery.

Top surgery is something I’ve been considering for several years. It is not a decision I’ve taken lightly. I know that this is a big thing to do to my body. But a year or so ago I realised that it’s something that I needed to do.

To put it bluntly, boobs feel really alien on my body. They jar with the image of myself that I have and make me feel incredibly uncomfortable and weird. Binding helps, but I can’t bind all the time, can’t bind to do any form of physical activity, and having a tight piece of clothing over your chest doesn’t half bring your attention to it.

Top surgery will help me feel more comfortable in my skin. It will mean I can do the things I love to do without suddenly becoming hyper aware of my chest and wanting to cry. I’m struggling to fully put this into words, but it will mean so so much to me.

I’m starting a gofundme because top surgery and the process of getting there is expensive.

My estimate at the moment is:

Gender Diagnosis appointment (2+ required for referral for surgery) - £550 - £700

Top Surgery - £7500 - £8000

Travel and accommodation - £500

I am in a position where I can work and save money, and have started doing so already. However, it has become apparent that to save the amount I need is going to take me at least 7 or 8 years.
