Luke the Beast, the Fighter, the Survivor!

We are writing to share the story of our dear friends: The Albrights

In 2016, at just 4 years old, sweet, silly Luke Albright was diagnosed with Stage 4 high risk Neuroblastoma. After 2 years of treatment (including a stem cell transplant & a Phase II clinical trial of chemotherapy and radiation) at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital,  #LukeTheBeast fought his way into remission and reclaimed his Nerf gun wars, soccer games, kindergarten classroom, playdates & swimming like a fish in the bathtub. The Albrights slowly, and gratefully, settled back into their "normal life".

Fast forward 2 years, through a million zombie apocalypse games in their backyard, piles of Legos, their new dog Molly, and many clean scans: February 2020, Luke's quarterly scans revealed a relapse of Neuroblastoma on his leg.

Luke's pediatric oncologists at Rainbow encouraged Ryan & Megan to consult with additional specialists at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. After an initial round of low dose chemotherapy, new scans showed that Luke's cancer had not responded as they'd hoped, but had spread.  The team agreed that a more aggressive plan of treatment would be necessary to tackle Luke's neuroblastoma.

The new treatment plan will require Luke to travel to Cincinnati for 8 days each month (with one of his parents), where he will undergo up to 26 rounds of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

This treatment plan will require weekly stays out of town, which will not only keep the Albright family apart for at least 8 days each month, but incur an unknown amount of travel expenses (food, gas, lodging) & at-home costs, over what could possibly be 26 months.

Megan will be letting go of her beloved job teaching preschool in order to be with Luke in Cincinnati, as well as to care for Luke between treatment rounds, while Ryan will continue to work and stay in Cleveland while caring for Liam, Luke's big brother, and keeping order of their home and all the Albright pets.

The Albrights have always been surrounded by an amazing tribe of loving, generous, onion-free meal making, stick-by-your side family & friends. They know that YOU always have their backs, because that's the kind of friends they are to each of us, too. They would do anything for their family and friends, and they do!

Luke, Liam, Megan & Ryan need us to love on them more than ever, and ANY amount you can give is meaningful. Maybe its a few V-bucks on Fortnite for Luke if he is feeling sick and can't physically play with his friends, maybe it's a tank of gas to make the 500 mile round trip drive to Cincinnati and back, maybe it's Chipotle for a tired parent who has spent the day with no time to make a meal for themselves, maybe it's going towards significant medical expenses not completely covered by insurance.

Whatever you are able to contribute will help in ways that are important and supportive of Luke, Liam, Megan and Ryan.

Thanks to each of you for being the kind of givers you are!

Much love,
Kristin & Mike Caputo
