We created this fund for well-wishers to support Lucia Langerman in getting the help she needs so she can stay in her apartment and avoid moving to a nursing home--a possible next step if she cannot afford the help of night aides.
Difficulty with breathing has become a challenge.
Despite having muscular dystrophy, Lucia manages to live on her own in her own apartment, while relying on aides for daily activities such getting in and out of bed, bathing and getting dressed as well as cooking, cleaning and more. She has decided to take early retirement because she needs oxygen almost 24 hours a day.
Due to a worsening lung condition related to her muscular dystrophy, Lucia needs a breathing machine through the night. Her insurance will cover only 2 hours of assistance and she cannot afford to pay for this critical care on her own.
It is not safe for her to use the breathing machine while she is alone. Paying for attendants through the night will allow Lucia to remain outside a nursing home. Despite having limited use of her hands and limbs, she is an amazing power of example of professionalism, hard work and persistence in tough situation.
We are raising funds to help Lucia Langerman continue to live independently.
