Jax's Spinal Cord Injury Recovery

3 months ago today we adopted Jax from MCPAWS animal shelter. Jax quickly became our main squeeze with endless love, energy, obedience and a major obsession for fetch.
Yesterday while playing fetch at the local dog park, I threw Jax’s favorite ball for him to retrieve, when another dog decided to run after the same ball full speed ahead and ran straight into him. Jax immediately collapsed to the ground whaling in pain... He could not move his hind legs. I carried him in a panic to the car, and headed to the ER where they determined he suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury and is paralyzed in his hind legs. Fortunately, after a night spent at the hospital and multiple imaging procedures, surgery has been currently ruled out. It was suspected that Jax has a low volume/high velocity disc herniation or fibrocartilaginous embolism, both of which can be medically treated. Jax will start with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, acupuncture, laser therapy, and ongoing rehab.
Jax is our best friend and we would do absolutely anything to give him the ability to live his best life. Being a recent college graduate starting a career as a nurse, this doesn't come easy and any help, love, hugs or donations of any amount will make us all eternally grateful. He will have a long road of recovery ahead, but we are very hopeful he will live to play fetch again!
