Hello friends and family, as many of you know; my mother passed away due to complications after an open heart, double bypass surgery. For months now the progression of her COPD caused shortness of breath and extreme fatigue during the smallest of tasks to the point she was ordered to a wheel chair for mobility. Despite my dads own physical pain he wheeled her around everywhere they went and just served her selflessly, without complaint. She went into the hospital on the 17th of September on her own admission to get her surgeries under way and found out her body was in a lot worse shape than she had known. The Dr.'s at St. Luke's would not do the high risk surgery until certain parts of her body had improved like her breathing, blood pressure, and kidneys. After a week they felt comfortable enough to let her have the surgery. She warned me before she went in how risky it was but quickly informed me she wasn't giving herself the choice. She said she wasn't living anyway, not being able to participate in activities that she once was able to and feeling the guilt of my dad caring for her, that the risk was worth it to her. She woke up in ICU and although she was still under pain medication due to how much pain and shock her body was in, she was able to take her intubation tube out, receive water, and more pain medicine to keep her comfortable. Before long the nurses stated she became "agitated" and turned up her sedation so she would essentially just go back to sleep in a drug induced coma. My dad and I were told this after the fact and never truly informed what they meant by she became agitated. My dad was up there everyday, all day, waiting for his one true love to wake up. September 28th the sedation was turned back down so she could start waking back up again and begin her recovery process but that was to no avail. She was not responding at all so they ordered a CAT scan to check her brain activity and everything was normal. Everyday I had to deliver the news to the world of people watching that she was not waking up but that the nurses promised that was normal for someone who's body was as broken as hers going into this. Seven days later she coded several times, each time the team of Dr.'s working to bring her back. Her pulse was faint but it was there. My dad, his best friend and I were able to say our goodbyes after being told there was nothing else they could do. Her body had simply just shut down. Her blood pressure was too low for dialysis, pulse was faint, kidneys and liver not functioning. My dad and I made the choice to still try. That as long as she had a pulse there was hope for the Lord to come in and work a miracle but that if she coded again we would let her body go in peace as it had been through enough trauma. The Lord sent his angels for Mom around 5:45 am October 5th. My dad and I are still just in shock. We thought she would just have the surgery and come home. This was the third big loss for my dad this year and only  months in between losing his only brother in August as well as his mother in January. He and my mother had cared for his brother in their home for over seven months as he battled Leukemia. My dad waited on him hand and foot, took him to all his Dr.'s appts., and even bathed/groomed him daily. At the same time he was caring for my Uncle, he was also managing their household and caring for my Aunt who was in hospice battling stage 4 lung cancer. He promised them both he would get them back together but there was one thing standing in the way of that, their own home. To spare embarrassment I will just say that my dad had to "re-vamp" their home to make it livable. He made the 45 min. trip to Pearland (on a good day) several times a week in between caring for my Uncle, the boys, and my mom and cleaned out dumpster after dumpster full of items collected over the years. He painted the house, bought home furnishings that were missing like microwave/coffee pot/pots & pans/food/dishes/ and home decor. He even bought two recliners for them to sit next to each other. He finally let me get involved and I started making the trips to clean the house and get it ready for them. My Uncle got home on a Friday, we were planning to get my Aunt there with him for good on Monday, he passed away Sunday. Did I mention how stressful it is to take care of someone else's affairs as well??? Hiring attorneys to do Power of Attorney, going through stacks of papers to find their insurance information, papers on their home, etc. He planned my Uncle's funeral and when he had to deliver the news to my Aunt he had passed he promised her he would get her home. And he finally did. She is still alive &a kicking with 24 hour care from a team of nurses that have become like family to us and although she misses her live she is happy to be back with her dog, Babygirl. My dad is still taking care of all her finances and this ANGEL head nurse helps him by cooking for my Aunt and grocery shopping, etc. As many of you reading this know, my childhood home my parents still lived in was effected by hurricane Harvey. FEMA drug their feet just getting a hotel room for them and still have yet to send their 500$ that they said he qualified for. Red Cross DENIED him for any assistance. Don't even ask me why, I still am just in shock and am so mad knowing his situation but what can you do? Praise God FEMA HAS delivered on the hotel that he has until the 25th and a FEMA worker just showed up the other day. Our experience? Slam, bam, thank you ma'am...didn't want to see photos, receipts my dad saved, nothing. I am claiming in the name of Jesus he will be given enough to rebuild at least the bare minimum. Now, this may sound like a lot and yes Dad has been through a lot but on the up side our world has been opened to tons of people praying for us and there to support my dad emotionally. We are just overwhelmed with love and we are humbled by it all. I moved back home to be able to help my dad rebuild so me and my boys are living in a home with no drywall and no flooring that has mold all throughout the walls. You never think of the little things that will get to you like the dust, critters, and mosquitos! Lol. BUT we are grateful we still have a home that can be rebuilt and not complaining. The main reason why I am doing this for my dad is I am hoping it will allow him to breathe. He's been complaining of chest pains and I can't lose both my parents. The process of figuring out her passwords, how she balances her checkbook, how she pays her bills is just exhausting. Her teacher pension will not be coming in anymore so he has to pay all the bills she did now and we will adjust, but need time
