Love for the Laverys

If you are lucky, you know someone like Brenden Lavery.  The guy with the infectious smile who always makes time to talk to his neighbors. The friend you love to fish with or just be around because he brings out the best in you simply by being a good man himself.

The man who married the love of his life twenty years ago and never lets a day go by without singing her praises.  The father of three handsome sons who think the world of him for his strength of character even in the face of crippling MS these past fourteen years.  A proud man determined to provide for his family despite his progressively debilitating condition.  The kind of man that found the beauty in life around him despite his struggles or perhaps because of them.  The kind of man who would opt to fall asleep sitting up hunched over on the couch when it was too painful to get to bed rather than wake his sons or loving wife.  The determined provider who needed his son’s help to lift him in and out of his truck and yet never missed a day of work…  until this November when, at age 51, he was diagnosed with Stage Four Lung Cancer and learned it has spread to his bones and lymph nodes.

It’s not clear if Brenden will be able to continue to work at the job he loves as Sales Manager at Hampton Ford in Hampton, NH where he has been for over 17 years.  He is described by others as being generous to a fault, without any expectations.  He’s been known to make car payments for customers who couldn’t make ends meet, and limitless random acts of kindness in his everyday dealings with people.  Everyone who meets him comes away a better person for being touched by his positivity, his gratitude for all that he does have and his enduring hopefulness.  His only fear is leaving his wife and family saddled with debt from his health issues and wants only to ensure their financial future.

Brenden’s two eldest sons Brenden Jr. (20) and Jake (18) are working tirelessly to help support their mother and are praying their younger brother Charlie (only 7) will have Dad at least through Christmas.  They are modeling what they’ve seen in their father as being the measure of a man.  Working without complaint, babysitting their brother, helping with chores, doing whatever it takes no questions asked.  But Brenden Jr. and Jake are no doubt feeling the weight of the financial burden, as they see the medical bills mounting.  Their mother has herself been a pillar of strength. Stoic and selfless, she’s relied on her sense of humor and personal strength to rise above.  She has taken on countless extra shifts herself until this latest turn of events.  But as the primary caregiver at home her earning potential was limited in order to care for their youngest and to be glue of the family.  Now the boys silently worry about the future for her and Charlie never mind themselves.  They are cut from the same cloth as their father and mother, however, and would never dream of asking for help.

That is why those of us who have been lucky enough to know and love Brenden and Shay and their amazing sons have taken up the cause and we truly hope you will join us!

We believe Brenden and his family are overdue for the sweet reward of the Karma they’ve created - simply by being themselves.  The Laverys are a loving, strong and self-reliant family who have remained ever positive, grateful and caring towards one another and their community despite the tremendous trials they’ve been dealt.   Won’t you please help them get through this difficult time and face the future together with renewed hope?
