Love for Lise Breast Cancer Fund

Update on 12/9/2017

Hello family and friends,

Mom was officially diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer which is an aggressive form of cancer that is not responsive to many treatments. Luckily, there are a few treatments that do work including chemotherapy and surgery.

Mom started chemo about two months ago with a drug they call they "red devil" which gave her debilitating headaches. She lost her hair a couple of weeks ago and is now wearing a wig and hats as she starts her second round of chemo. To try to help with the medical expenses, she agreed to start a trial drug which is also pretty hard on her. She’s being a trooper through all of this though. I can’t say how proud I am of her strength and bravery.

On the financial front, Mom applied for financial assistance but was denied. She has accrued around $3000 in bills at the moment and is paying them as she can although she has limited funds. We anticipate her bills will grow significantly when she has her double mastectomy in a few months.

Thank you very much to everyone who has donated, taken my mom to chemo, or otherwise visited her. She and our family greatly appreciate all the love you all have shown. We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you have some time to connect, Mom would love to connect. These sorts of things very much remind you how lucky you are to have such support.

Melissa

Hello everyone,

For those of you who don't know, our mom Lise was diagnosed with breast cancer on August 16, 2017.

We don't know yet the full diagnosis or the stage. But, as we have more information, we will post it here.  She is visiting a surgeon recommended by her doctor today so we will hopefully have more information soon.

What we do know is that mom will likely have significant medical bills and need to be out of work at some point. She lives by herself and has limited savings, so being unable to work will really impact her ability to afford her home, utility bills, and other mandatory expenses.

Thus, we have set up a GoFundMe page in her name to try to help. If you would like contribute, you can donate using this page.

We are starting with a $10,000 goal to help her cover her high medical deductible and save money for when she might be out of work. Unfortunately, she has already had multiple doctor's visits and is scheduled for an MRI, so we expect her bills to start piling up immediately.

Special Note: Not all funds donated will go to Lise as we have to pay fees and taxes on any monies received -- GoFundMe site use fees (5%), credit card fees (3%), and income tax (est. 20 to 30%).

Mom is still at home and has not yet begun treatment. As she progresses through her treatment, we will post here what she might need.

If you would like to send something to her, please feel free to contact Melissa Sousa via the link on this webpage, email, text, or Facebook so she can send you her address.

Please feel free to forward this link to anyone who might want to receive updates or contribute. Thank you so much in advance for contributing. Anything helps!

Love her daughters,
Melissa and Courtney
