Louis liver shunt surgery

we got Louis when he was 8 weeks old. He was always a little quirky from the day we got him but we figured it was just typical puppy behavior. From then on he was crazy picky with his food and stayed pretty skinny. Around  7 months old he started acting really sad... tail was tucked, he lost weight pretty quickly and started showing signs of hepatic encephalopathy. We thought he had a uti because we saw blood in his urine. We collected a sample and brought him to the vet. That day we got the unexpected news that he had a suspected shunt and crystals in his bladder. He has since been diagnosed with a liver shunt and has been medically managed but he is still not gaining weight and has days where he sleeps all day and can’t get up. We have decided to get him his surgery and have an appointment in January with Michigan state university. We have has some tests done but to come will be ultrasounds and more blood tests and finally the surgery. As of right now we are just trying to keep him healthy enough for surgery next year.

i am a college student just about to graduate cosmetology school and my fiancé is in college as well getting his bachelors degree in medicalsales. We are looking for a small apartment to start our lives when we get married next October and are trying to get some of the funds to get our puppy healthy.
