My name is Michael and my story is about my best friend Lota. We met in 1996 working together at a bookstore. The friendship grew fast as we also became neighbors and rented a shotgun style house being right next door to each other. In 2005 Lota had moved to another house and took me after a house fire left me homeless. Then hurricane Katrina hit. I then became Lota's full time caregiver in 2008 when she became blind rather suddenly after realizing to late she had diabetic retinopathy. This left her unable to work and I became not only her best friend but someone she could rely on to do for her. In 2010 Lota lost the use of her left side of her body after a stoke. Then in 2012 Lota suffered a heart attack that left her unable to do fo r herself on a daily basis. Then in early 2014 after suffering yet another stroke doctors discovered that Lota was in desperate need of dialysis three times a week. This added expense was not covered by her mere pension of disability.  December 2014 Lota suffered a heart attack one evening at home and was rushed to the hospital. The heart attack did a lot of damage to an already weakened heart and kidneys that had severe damage. Doctors told me in early in the year that the condition of her kidneys and heart left her with a possibility of a year to live. I never did tell her that, nor did the doctors. She spent two weeks in ICU recovering and upon finally making it to the Rehab unit she relapsed and coded. She was unresponsive for 15 minutes and yet they were able to save her but on life support. The doctors explained her wishes for  DNR and surrounded by a CCU room full of family and friends from over many years a collective decision was made to honor her wishes to go in peace. At 8:45 Lota received her last rights and took her last breath. Now to put her soul to rest help is needed. An amount to have a memorial service and honor her wishes to be cremated and her ashes to be combined with her mothers. I ask you to please help so I can make sure my best friend can be put to rest.
