Bass Family Flood Recovery

In 2016, the unthinkable happened as the flood of the century swept through Lumberton, NC. My dear friends, The Basses, watched in horror as the water rose inch by inch towards their front door. The devastation brought to the town by Hurricane Matthew was unimaginable. After the water receded, my friends were left with a home that had mold already 4 feet up the walls. It had to be gutted and rebuilt. They and their 3 children had to find a place to live for 7 months during this time and endure the process of rebuilding their home.

16 months after moving back in to their newly built and beautiful home, the weather report stated that a Hurricane was headed towards the Carolinas. No one imagined it would hit, of all places, Lumberton. Thousands of people had barely recovered from Hurricane Matthew when Florence came barrelling in at the speed of a... turtle. Day after day of rain brought epic flooding to the area once again and, once again, my beloved friends watched their home succumb to Mother Nature. Paula and the girls have been staying with me while they wade through the red tape of FEMA and insurance and make a plan for what will come next.

There are thousands in need. If I could, I would help them all. For now, I'm asking my friends to stop for a moment and give what you can to help the Basses through this unimaginably difficult time. To lose a home twice in 2 years when you have 2 full time jobs, 3 small children, and all the other stresses in life to take care of is unthinkable to me.
