Lost & Found Pets Group-Float Fire
A 13,000-member Facebook Group, Lost and Found Pets - Huntsville, AL/Madison County, spent months building and decorating a float for the annual Huntsville Christmas Parade, gathering $1,000 worth of materials and adding special touches like working lights, all in an effort to win the $300 prize for best float. They wanted to use the prize money to help pay for more pets to be spayed & neutered.
Now, because of the actions of one careless person, their dreams are literally up in smoke. As they float was on its way to the parade, a driver flicked a lit cigarette butt out the car window, and it landed on the straw surrounding the whimsically detailed 'Whoville' style house. The straw and house quickly caught fire, and though Huntsville Fire Department responded to put out the flames, the float was destroyed.

The group has helped reunite 5,000 pets with their owners since creator Jeananne Jackson founded it, so it's especially heartbreaking that something this awful would happen to such an important community resource.
