Lost everything in a forest fire

Donativo protegido
Hi! My name is Sara. This page is for my mother and her husband Terri. On 9/7/20, a fire quickly ripped through the town of Malden, WA. With the winds being 40-50 mph, the forest fire quickly spread leaving mass destruction. The fire was the perfect storm for disaster. My understanding from research and family reports is there were three fires in the area came together outside the town of Malden. The fires combined with the winds allowed the town to begin burning within 20 minutes. For my mom this meant, one moment there was concern that there were fires in the area to a very short time amount of time later, the fire was just on the outskirts of their property requiring evacuation. There was no time in that short span to pack nor time to create a plan. It was just that quick. The outside atmosphere was extremely smokey from the fires making a terrifying moment even more difficult as one can lose their sense of direction in the chaos. Law enforcement was present at major intersections yelling at people to get out and head West. At this moment, my mom did not know which way West was and asked them to point. Thankfully, they both got out with no harm to themselves. It is being reported at least 80% of the town’s homes were a complete loss from the fire. Because of how quickly things moved, my mom and Terri left with the clothes they were wearing and their dog.

They have had a chance to see where there house once stood but were not allowed to get too close as the fire is still hot and smoldering but there is nothing left of the house. A chicken coop somehow remained standing with the chickens in it. Major building such as the fire station, city hall and post office burned as well. As you can imagine, there are a lot of emotions that take place when one loses their entire home and all their belonging including memories, photos and so much more. If you are able to donate to help during the transition for housing, food, clothing and hygiene items to get them back on their feet, please do what you can. These funds are needed right away for immediate needs but will also be needed as there are many unknown expenses that come about from needing to locate housing, food and minimal clothing/hygiene items. If you are willing to share, please do so. We appreciate you taking the time to read this.
