There are no words for the devastation that happens when cancer strikes a person, their family and friends.

Mom, Stepmom, Sister, Grandma, Wife, Aunt, Friend, Best Friend, BFF and so much more.  These are all the personalities that describe Lorraine.

In of June 2018, Lorraine had been suffering periodically from what seemed to be minor dizzy spells with nausea and some over salivation (watery mouth).  In early August, Lorraine then started to complain about not being able to remember anything and was suffering from memory recall issues, which she thought was simply age-related things.

A doctor friend of Lorraine’s, luckily noticed these symptoms and examined her on Aug 13 in which she took some blood and started the process to get approval from our insurance company to do an MRI. On Aug 24th, 2018 Lorraine went in for an MRI.   The MRI showed that there was a mass. A biopsy followed by a top neurosurgeon in the Weill Cornell Medical Center in NYC.

Just a month ago, she has been diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, a very aggressive and rare form of brain cancer.  This cancer grows into the brain tissue, rather than growing as one mass tumor. As such, it is inoperable. Her team of doctors are outstanding and have reacted quickly to the diagnosis. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy with doctors at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.

The treatments themselves have been tough on Lorraine and have caused an increase in some of her symptoms including issues with her speech and walking.  But because they are some of the top experts in the field, they are also very expensive. While insurance will cover most of the costs, there are many other costs associated with this treatment. On top of the treatment itself, whose goal is to shrink this inoperable tumor and look to control the growth for as long as possible, the goal is to maintain the highest quality of life for Lorraine while on her journey to cure herself of this disease. As such here are some of the things you can help support:  medical expenses that aren't covered by insurance; home care; home modifications to support her condition; rehabilitation; after treatment; physical therapy; legal fees for estate affairs; speech therapy; plus any other unexpected expenses.

Lorraine is loved by and has helped so many people in her life.  The outpouring of support has been tremendous as family and people from the community and work have shown up willing to do whatever it takes to help.  It is truly a testament to how loved Lorraine is.  That’s what prompted this page.

As mentioned earlier, there are no words for the devastation that happens when cancer strikes a person, their family and friends.  And this has been utterly devastating.  At the creation of this page, the speed at which this happened is dizzying as it has only been 8 weeks since discovering something in the MRI and 5 weeks since the diagnosis on Sept 17, 2018.  All of our lives have been turned upside down.  Lorraine is homebound and can’t be without any supervision.  Regardless we maintain a very high level of faith and hope as Lorraine still says to me “Louie don’t worry, everything will be alright”.  I believe it will and with your continued prayers, faith, love and support I KNOW everything will be alright.  She is truly the most courageous woman I will ever know.  I love her so much as I can see you do.

We are seeking a total of $50,000 to provide the wholistic care Lorraine needs to overcome this condition and improve her quality of life as she deals with the myriad of symptoms caused and can be caused by this cancer.  In order to achieve this, we really need your help.
