Lori and Stage III Cancer....

So... let me start back a little further. 18 years ago I was a court reporter - a REALLY great career! Then, I suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke. Yep, I actually know how to spell that ;) I endeavored greatly through rehab to learn how to speak walk, sing again - and though I cannot work or drive or do a myriad of other things, I am graced with being able to get up every morning and see the sunshine! Eight months after the stroke, my husband was almost killed in his own workplace injury in the mines. We now just enjoy each other and the Lord's blessings and leave it at that.
Somehow, I seem to have gotten into the wrong line somewhere and have been "issued" Stage III Rectal Cancer. I keep looking for the Returns department to tell them, "You must have made a mistake. I have already been issued a stroke. The cancer belongs to someone else!" Alas, I have not found it.
I have had surgery and am nearly through with chemotherapy. Sadly, the bills are just NOW coming through and YIKES are they much bigger than I realized. The little baby ones came through first and I though, "Oh, I can take care of this. We are going to be fine." I didn't realize the behemoths were going to follow later.
It is not in my nature to ask for help. My husband and I are usually the ones doing the helping. He is a member of a fraternal organization, has driven veterans to the VA hospital for the DAV until he was unable to do it any longer and I was the scheduling coordinator. We have always helped in ways we could, donated to senior centers and the like; but bills that come in at $1,000 a whack are just too much for us to handle.
