On Saturday, October 21, the 3 year old son of one of our longest serving employees, Lorena, was severely burned in a kitchen accident at their home.
He was taken to Boulder Community Hospital and then flown to Children's Hospital in Aurora where he's recovering from 3rd degree burns over 40% of his body. He is in the ICU and will most likely be there for much longer.
But that is just the beginning, once he is finally released from the hospital, he has a long road to recovery.
Lorena has worked for us since shortly after we opened. She has done everything for us here at Pica's - she made our tortillas for the first few years we were open, she worked as a prep cook, and kitchen manager before taking some time off to have her third child. She recently returned to Pica's to help make ends meet.
