Long Horse Ride

Our Story

Every summer has a story, this is where ours begins. Your gifts will create miracles in the lives of deserving teenagers, and adoptable horses. This Long Horse Ride is an extraordinary adventure, exploring nearly 450 (s)miles of Oregon, navigating the wilderness on horseback. We'll be fostering and riding adoptable horses from our local non profit, Mustangs to The Rescue, giving us all a purpose and a job to do for the summer. Joining us for the ride are two very deserving teenage boys from our community.

Braydon is one of the young men who'll join us. He knows about the challenges life can throw at you. At the age of eight, he was diagnosed with Crones, a chronic disease, an inflammation of the intestines. The doctors haves surgically removed nine inches of his. He’s spent close to a year of his life living in a hospital. He's been held back but refuses to be held down. Braydon deserves the adventure of a lifetime.

Cole lives in Bend. He'll join us too. His mom wrote me awhile back, sharing this: "Hi Josh! My son Cole is fifteen and will be a sophomore next year. He's a really good kid, but has some depression and self esteem issues. I really think an opportunity like this could do so much for him.  I think I've got him convinced to come meet you and the horses and get some info on the adventure". Cole was reluctant to commit to such a long adventure at first but after spending time with the horses, he's convinced that this is the right thing for him to be doing with his summer.

We'll circle the state, starting in the Jefferson Wilderness, south for one hundred and sixty miles, then north for three hundred miles on the famed Pacific Crest Trail, finishing at Bridge of The God’s when we reach the border of Washington at the Columbia River.

Our mission: healing hearts of humans and horses. Our new best friends will be freed from their corrals, believing they'll become more adoptable and hopefully we'll be able to find them forever homes by the time we're through. Maybe you’re looking for a new best friend?

We’ll post our experiences, our thoughts, videos, and lots of pictures to our blog (www.longhorseride.com) along the way, sharing our time on the trail with you as we go. And we hope to create a documentary to share with you after we complete our odyssey.

The experiences that we’ll have, and the challenges we’ll overcome together will be monumental and forever life changing. A beautiful bond will develop with the horses we foster. Self confidence will build as a result of taking a leap of faith. I believe we are all serving our purpose.

I became inspired to share the gift I received while out discovering the wilderness on my own. So I had an idea and I asked a couple of families I know if their sons would be interested in an extended wilderness adventure.

I'm grateful to have my best pal, Rudi along for this adventure. I met him at the Standing Rock Indian Reservation through a close mutual friend. I can't think of anyone else I'd love to share this experience with. And he's recently graduated as an EMT, capable of lending a hand to anyone who needs it.

Thank you for all of the love, your support and the encouragement. We can’t do it without you!
