Loki, aka Maxx, came into A Heart for Animals rescue in November from a kill shelter in S IL. He was scheduled to be euthanized, due to space at the kill shelter, AHFA pulled him to save his life. He is an 8 year old, American Bulldog, weighing a bit over 100lbs. A big, lovable boy for sure!
Upon intake we realized that he is heartworm positive. After his extensive neuter, due to his size and other medical issues, Loki started his first heartworm treatment. He did great! 1 treatment down, 2 more to go.
He was doing great..... until about 3 weeks after his first heartworm treatment, we received a call from Loki's foster home stating he wasn't feeling well and was vomiting. He immediately went to our vet for testing. It was determined that he had a mass in his intestines and emergency exploratory surgery was done immediately to save his life.
The exploratory surgery found that he had a toy stuck in his intestines. It was festering for quite a while and we feared that part of his intestines needed to be removed. Thankfully, after thorough examination, none of the intestine had to be removed. The toy was successfully removed. We got it in time!
Loki was able to go back to his foster home the following day and back to his foster canine sisters that he loves. His incision is about 7 inches long. He is doing really well after surgery, the surgery that literally saved his life. So well, that he was able to complete his heartworm treatment last week.
Loki's emergency surgery cost $1490. We are asking for donations towards this life saving emergency surgery. He would not be alive today without this surgery. This amount does not include his extensive neuter surgery or his heartworm treatment.
Any amount towards this emergency surgery would be a great help for our rescue. We are happy and relieved we were able to help him, but now need your help.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give us!
