I have spent the last decade traveling to China and the last 2 years living there. I have met many incredible people inside and outside of the workplace.
One of my colleagues has been given the news that we all fear. She has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Her doctors have given her less than 30 days to live.
Lizzy Hu joined us a little over a year ago. As a program manager, Lizzy quickly came up to speed with one of our largest and most challenging customers. Always smiling and enjoying the work she did.
Lizzy and her younger brother were born in the city of Pingxiang which is in the Jiangxi Province. Like many rural Chinese, she decided to leave her hometown and get a job in Shenzhen, almost 1000km away.
Lizzy is a single mom. She has a 4-year-old son, Qian Yu, who lives with Lizzy’s parents in Pingxiang. In China it is very common for new parents to find good paying opportunities and send the money home for the family and village they live within.
Unless you have spent time in China, or have close friends who were born in China, it is hard to comprehend the sacrifices and devotion that they have to taking care of their family. Lizzy is no exception. She was an instrumental source of income and support to her family.
