Liza's Cancer Treatment
Don protégé
To say that the last 2 months and a week have been difficult is putting it mildly. On September 5th we went to Piedmont Outpatient off of Epps Bridge with what we thought was a bad back. After a short stint of some steroids and muscle relaxers, we followed up with a visit back on September 11th, only to find that Liza was diagnosed with Stage 3/4 Breast Cancer. A trip to the ER at Piedmont confirmed this and we began seeing an oncologist, Dr. Cody Gunn on September 15th. On September 20th, 3 biopsies and 2 mammograms confirmed our worst fears. We were beginning Radiation treatments after a consult out at UCIB on the 28th of September and were sent for a PET scan on October 4th. The Pet scan showed a tumor on her T-6 vertebrae and she was admitted to Piedmont Hospital to ICU where Liza has been since. Sunday night she contracted pneumonia but came out of it after a very rough 48 hours. I'm thankful to the Doctor's, Nurse's, Respiratory Therapists, and Rad Tech's who are taking good care of her. I am thankful for my sister in-laws for staying with Liza overnight so that she is not alone. Jackson and I are doing well as we can trying to go to work and school. Liza has a long road ahead of her, but at least we still can see her and be together as a family. Please say a prayer for her, or what ever you believe in or can do?
Liza will need home healthcare and is not able to work. Liza also fractured her back one day before being admitted to the hospital. We may also be looking at a step down facility to continue 2 weeks of Rehab before beginning Chemotherapy. The Chemotherapy will only be once every 3 weeks in 3 sessions and will involve smart drugs to combat the HERS-2. As the cancer has spread to her bones, it is not in any other areas of her body. If you donate anonymously please know that we thank you in advance.
