Living Liver & Kidney Donor Lost Wages
Donation protected
On May 2, 2019 I will be donating a portion of my liver to a stranger. (A little boy). The surgery was originally scheduled for May 29, but due to my recipients declining health, the date has been moved up. I was also a non directed kidney donor on March 15, 2017, but worked mostly from home so lost wages were never a concern. I work as a health clerk at Red Hawk Elementary in Erie, Colorado. My original surgery date was scheduled during summer break, so there was no concern for lost wages. I have been approved for a medical leave of absence, but don't qualify for FMLA. I will be able to return to my job in the fall, but will not get paid for the days I'll be out. There are grants that I could apply for as a living donor, however my donation was scheduled so quickly that I won't be able to qualify in time. It is recommended by the transplant center that I fundraise, so here I am.
