LIVER TRANSPLANT FOR MY UNCLE, DELTON STEWART

Delton Stewart, my uncle, has been fully evaluated by the top-rated liver transplant team at Duke Hospital and was placed on their liver transplant list as of June 8, 2020.  He is waiting for the call when a suitable donor for him has been found.

 The Backstory

Uncle Del has been battling known liver disease for over 12 years. The complications of non-alcoholic induced cirrhosis of the liver forced Uncle Del into early retirement from his lifelong career at VDOT 8 years ago.  Uncle Del has faced a number of hospital admissions due to complications of his worsening liver failure.

 The Costs

Uncle Del will initially be responsible for approximately $25,000.  This cost includes the coinsurance payment that is due before the transplant, the transplant medication costs, a 30-day stay away from home to be close to Duke Hospital for monitoring after the transplant, and then travel expenses for follow-up appointments.
